OUR PATRON SAINT 'S CELEBRATION IN TIGGIANO(Italy)

On 18th and 19th january in Tiggiano (our village),it's the day of our patron saint, his name is: "IPPAZIO".
On 18th there is a village festival that is called "sagra della pestanaca". Pestanaca is a special type of carrot, we only have it! It's very good, and you can do everything with it: cakes, salad, pasta...
There is also a "pestanaca competition", the best carrot wins. And at the fair you can find everything! This year, there was a pig, and if you guessed the weight of it, you could win the pig!
On 19th, I and my friends went to the church, then we went to the religious procession with the statue of the saint in the streets; and then we went out. There were the stalls and the funfair!! We had lots of fun there! In the evening there were fireworks. It was great!!!
You can see photos of the "pestanache" (carrots)

Our nearest important city:Lecce

Lecce is an important city, about 50 km from us. We are in Puglia, south Italy. Lecce is very famous, thanks to the Baroque style, that decorates the churches, the buildings and the monuments of the town. Lecce is also called the “Florence of the south” for the art.
The most important places of Lecce are: Duomo’s square, and sant’Oronzo square; the roman and greek amphitheatre, church “Santa Croce” etc. In Lecce there is also a museum, that preserves some statues, reliefs, inscriptions, vases and ceramics. In Lecce there are other tourist attractions, like castles and gardens. The patron saint of Lecce is “sant’Oronzo” and it is
celebrated on the 27th of August. Lecce is a wonderful city. Come and visit it!

Our Christmas concert

On the 21th of December 2009 we had the school concert in the church. We were so excited, happy and we were really nervous for the concert.
Everyone did something: someone sang, someone recited poems that each class wrote and a lot of us played the carols.
In our orchestra there are four types of instruments: piano, violin, clarinet and guitar. We played nine songs and we played them very well.
We wore a red sweater and black trousers.
We had to work a lot, but it was a good concert ad so we want to say “thanks” to our music teachers. Of course, the church was full of parents, friends, relatives and other people from our village.

It was a success!!!

LEGENDS

Surely, you have heard the story of king Arthur and one about mermaids or someone has told you he knows what the secret formula of cocacola is.These stories,we don't know if they are true, we call them legends.

Legends are stories that have a part that is true and one that is fantasy. These are transmitted from generation to generation ,so we don't know who first told them. They can also change a bit over the years. Legends are part of the culture and believes of a village or a country, they can be about great heroes or fear. However, they almost always have a moral.

There are many myths and legends arround the world. One of these stories everybody knows is Robin hoold, a man who lived with his friends in Sherwood forest, and who stole the rich to give to the poor .We also know about king Arthur and escalibur ,the mermaids, the fairies and more.In spain ,one of the best known legends is the “Cid”,which is about a nobleman and knight who fought against the moors to conquer the Iberian peninsula.

A new form of legend nowadays are urban legends that are passed by word of mouth and by new technology. Thanks to technology, these stories get to many people and they often believe them some of these myths are about famous people, like elvis presley, or the formula for coca cola.

In my opinion, this is way to have fun as long as we know to separate fact fron fiction, without letting legends affect us.

I suggest we read and find information about legends in our countries, and them share them here in this blog. If we collect a lof of them we can write a book, our own book of popular leyends.

night, you can have dinner in a lot of different restaurants and then
you can go to the pub.You can visit the other towns around Huéscar
like “la Puebla de don Fadrique” or “Las Almontaras”.
In the summer, you can swim in “Fuencaliente” “palpacen”or the

on a bank in the park.Every sunday you can listen to the municipal

The importance of travelling

THE IMPORTANCE OF TRAVELLING.
I'm going to talk about people who travel abroad. This subject has disadvantages and advantages, for example: if you are a young person you will have the hope to travel far from your parents, but you will need a lot of money to travel.
Lately, the number of people who travel to English countries is growing. Many people believe that it is a stupid thing, really it isn't that!
There are a lot of advantages for this practice:
-you can meet new people from various countries(Ilarian, spanish. japonese....)
you 'll learn to live together and you will learn to do things in the house too, that in your home, din't do!!!
-you will learn a language the best way because you will have the oportunity to talk with native people. For this reason, your learning will be better than in your country. You can learn English in a lot of ways, but learn there are 2 very important ones: First, you can pay your classes in a language school and second, you can find a job for your stay.
-you can do different activities according to your destiny. You can buy at different shops, learn it's gastronomy or i'ts customs. You can visit monuments that only you could see in a book or in photos. You can know other climate different from your city, and you can go out to a party too.

Well, but it has disadvantages too:
-You need money for your travel, but if you are a bright person, you can book your ticket and you will problably travel for less money.
-other disadvantages could be your transport it could be very comfortable and cheap or not.

In my opinion , all the students should travel to learn many other things that in their countries. If your parents don't want to pay your travel because it is very expensive, you can get a grant too. From my experience, travel and travel. It's fantastic!!
How about you?. Have you ever been abroad?
Tell your experience. What do you think of travelling?

SCHOOL FASHION DESIGN CLUB

Our school is called Parnu Vene Gymnasium. 700 students from 7 to 19 study here. We have a lot of out of class activities in our school. We`d like to tell you about our FACHION DESIGN CLUB called CHANCE. Students create two-three collections per year and present them at the Parnu fashion contest and the national fashion contest for schools. Every year our FASHION DESIGN CLUB gets a prize. It is one of the best school fashion design clubs in Estonia. We are very proud of it. There is no need to say that everything is made from waste materials, of course.
All club members are divided into there groups.
1. Fashion designers – generate ideas and design clothing and accessories.
2. Dressmakers – are good at sewing. They turn designers` ideas into life.
3. Fashion models – demonstrate clothing and accessories during fashion shows.
All club members work together in a team and help each other a lot. That`s why our club is the best.

Christmas time in Italy

Christmas is an important event all over the world and in our region too. When Christmas arrives, cities, streets and houses change. Everywhere, there are lights, Christmas trees and decorations that create a dream atmosphere. Most of the people spend their free time walking, going shopping and buying presents for parents and friends. People also decorate their houses. They prepare a beautiful and colourful tree and the crib, which represents the nativity. Students have concerts in school for their parents and relatives. Christmas can be considered a family feast, and an occasion to be with those we love. On Christmas eve, people usually go to the church at midnight to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. On Christmas day, people usually have a traditional lunch. Traditional food includes home-made pasta, “pittule” and “pandoro” or “panettone”, “cartellate” and “purcedduzzi”, which are the typical Christmas sweets. In the evening, people go to the cinema to watch Christmas films or visit relatives to wish them a “Merry Christmas”.

( By Musarò Michela, Abaterusso Elisa, Surano Lucia- class 2A)

At night on New Year’s Eve we stay with our friends and relatives. We have a typical dinner: “Cotechino and lenticchie”. For dessert there are Panettone, Torrone, Cartellate, Purceddhuzzi, …
Before midnight we do the countdown, that is also on television. During the wait, we play “tombola” and other board games. When midnight arrives, we open the champagne and we eat the “PANETTONE”, and then there are lots of multicoloured fireworks. It is really funny and fantastic! On first January there is a big meal. We stay with our family, and we have a big lunch.
On Epiphany Day we hang lots of socks on the fireplace because “BEFANA” (on old woman like a witch) comes with socks full of sweets and chocolates for good children. For bad children she fills the socks with black coal.
In our area we also have “live nativity”. They are fantastic: you can see photos.
