Surely, you have heard the story of king Arthur and one about mermaids or someone has told you he knows what the secret formula of cocacola is.These stories,we don't know if they are true, we call them legends.
Legends are stories that have a part that is true and one that is fantasy. These are transmitted from generation to generation ,so we don't know who first told them. They can also change a bit over the years. Legends are part of the culture and believes of a village or a country, they can be about great heroes or fear. However, they almost always have a moral.
There are many myths and legends arround the world. One of these stories everybody knows is Robin hoold, a man who lived with his friends in Sherwood forest, and who stole the rich to give to the poor .We also know about king Arthur and escalibur ,the mermaids, the fairies and more.In spain ,one of the best known legends is the “Cid”,which is about a nobleman and knight who fought against the moors to conquer the Iberian peninsula.
A new form of legend nowadays are urban legends that are passed by word of mouth and by new technology. Thanks to technology, these stories get to many people and they often believe them some of these myths are about famous people, like elvis presley, or the formula for coca cola.
In my opinion, this is way to have fun as long as we know to separate fact fron fiction, without letting legends affect us.
I suggest we read and find information about legends in our countries, and them share them here in this blog. If we collect a lof of them we can write a book, our own book of popular leyends.
